Cederberg, South Africa, Join us

Join us:

We will support to take eight youth from the Fisantekraal bike club (settlement outside of Cape Town) to the Cederberg Conservation area  in March 2016, for a weekend filled with adventure, cycling, hiking and camping in the wilderness. The area is known to us from the  Africa expedition with Mike Horn and a reunion.

The purpose of the project is to give youth a chance to explore and learn from nature and each other, without financial constraints. They will learn to appreciate their environment, the beauty of the world and to get to know oneself through extending personal limits. The trip will further be an opportunity to escape their daily struggle in the township and enjoy the beauty of the outsides; a chance most of them would never have.

Fisantekraal is an area just outside of project leader Henko Roukema’s home town Durbanville and consists of mostly low income families that cannot afford to go on holiday or have a chance to explore the mountains. The Fisantekraal Bike Club is headed up by bike mechanic and trainer Brenna Coupland who takes groups of students through an eight week programme of breaking down and building up broken bicycles.

We believe that everyone – no matter where they come from – can come together and enjoy exploring their environment, learning from each other and about oneself.
