We associated ourselves again with our partner Geberit’s social-aid project. Following projects in India and Serbia, we were now going back to Mike Horn’s root, his home country of South Africa.

Geberit South Africa identified the Fontein Primary School in Gelvandale as a school in desperate need for new sanitation facilities. With close to a thousand students, it only had one working toilet, a situation clearly unbearable for an adequate schooling facility.

In parallel to the 12th Pangaea Expedition to Africa, a team of Young Explorers and Pangaea Ambassadors spent three weeks in Port Elizabeth at the Fontein Primary School to spend time with the students, to revamp the school and build a Green vegetable garden.

Namely, the objectives of the project were:

-establishing a vegetable green garden and food scheme

– school work, including games, educational workshops, painting murals and bringing a waste program

-organizing clean-ups in the community

-excursions: provide the children with new perspectives
